While it seems the Marvel universe is male-dominated, things have been changing over the years and female Marvel characters have been increasing. Nowadays, the movies, television series, and the comics have some of the strongest females ever created. Not only are these women physically tough and imbued with special powers, but they are also emotionally and intellectually well-rounded.
A new study looked at all Tweets mentioning a Marvel franchise film or character over the last decade, crunched the numbers, and came up with 5 favorite female Marvel characters. That has got to be a lot of tweets over 10 years! But five names kept rising to the top—can you guess which ones?
5 Favorite Female Marvel Characters
5. The Wasp/Hope Pym

Like her counterpart Ant-Man, the Wasp has can change her size. In the comics, she can also sprout wings and fly, and has little antennas that allow her to telepathically communicate with insects. What’s more, she can use her body’s bioelectric energy, zapping it through her hands in powerful bursts. It is the Wasp who named the crew “The Avengers.”
4. Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff

While Avengers movies have shown Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff’s mutant magic moments, they have yet to explore the full range of her abilities. In the graphic novels, she can do basically anything she sets her mind to; she can even rearrange reality to her whim. She can also make things happen with short incantations, and she can move things with her mind. The hit Disney+ television series WandaVision has given us a deeper look.
3. Thena — Eternals

Thena is one of the Eternals, a race of superhuman. This otherworldly creature has lived for more than 7,000 years and never aged a day. Thena first appeared in the mid-1970s comic book series titled The Eternals, and made a long-lasting impression. She is also a member of Heroes for Hire, a business founded by Luke Cage, which offers superhuman security and investigation services to mere mortals. And of course, she’s played by Angelina Jolie in the most recent Marvel movie, Eternals, which, surprisingly enough, is one of Marvel’s few flops.
2. Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff

She may not have the telepathic and telekinetic powers of some other popular superheroes, but Black Widow is genetically engineered and a master spy, which gives her a skill-set that few Marvel characters have—add that to the fact she’s drop-dead gorgeous and you’ve got one killer femme fetale. Therefore, she can outsmart even the most formidable foes. And it doesn’t hurt that she’s a martial arts master!
And No. 1 on the list is…
1. Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers
This is somewhat surprising, given that Captain Marvel, being the first female-led Marvel film and starring Brie Larson in the title role, received considerable backlash from fans upon release. But it’s no surprise that Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers reigns supreme. She got her awesome abilities when she was caught in a blast of radioactive energy, which gave her the power to absorb energy and throw it at will, as well as create beams of white-hot light. She can fly and has an uncanny cosmic cognizance.
When it comes to the popularity of the characters featured in the upcoming release Eternals (out on November 5), the analysis reveals it’s Angelina Jolie’s Thena that has seen the most positive reception on Twitter, followed by Dane, Diego, and Jack.
For those who ranked lower, we’re sorry to say it’s Jessica Jones, Shuri, and Mantis that have seen the least support online—maybe they just haven’t struck a chord with fans yet.
You may not care about the Marvel Universe, but there’s likely someone in your life who does — impress them by knowing the favorite female Marvel characters.
