5 Favorite Famous Mothers from Movies and TV — Is Your Top Hollywood Mom on the List?

You’ll be surprised at how many “shady ladies” made this list of favorite famous mothers on screens both big and small.

Favorite famous moms

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and so naturally we’ve got Mom on our minds. And we’re not the only ones—a brand new report reveals which Hollywood moms everyone’s been talking about the most lately.

Thortful.com, home of the largest online greeting cards marketplace, used social listening (see? Mom is not the only one who hears everything you say) to compile the data. They made a list of the favorite famous mothers people on social media are talking about most.

Surprisingly, three of these Hollywood moms are what could easily be classified as “shady ladies,” and one of the top on-screen moms isn’t a mother at all in the traditional sense, but she is a strong maternal figure: she’s the practically perfect in every way, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Mary Poppins.

If you and your mother have fond memories of watching these shows together, or are big fans of the same Hollywood moms, we thought you might like links to the DVDs (Mom probably still watches DVDs, right?). They would make great gifts for Mother’s Day, birthdays, etc.

Read on to see which Hollywood moms make the grade and why:

5 Favorite Famous Mothers from Movies and TV

Morticia Addams, Addams Family (TV series)

Morticia’s motherly advice: “Life’s not all lovely thorns and singing vultures, you know.”

The spooky but supportive mother of Wednesday and Pugsley Addams still ranks high, thanks to The Addams Family’s undying popularity. Morticia Addams first flew onto the scene in cartoons for The New Yorker magazine in the 1930s, then was embodied by Carolyn Jones in the 1960s TV series. She lives on in movies, portrayed by various actresses.

Cookie Lyon, Empire (TV series)

Cookie’s motherly advice: “The streets ain’t for everybody. That’s why they made sidewalks.”

Loretha “Cookie” Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) from Empire may not be sweet, but she doesn’t crumble. She is as fierce as a lioness when it comes to protecting her sons. When this take-no-prisoners ex-con mom talks, everybody listens up!

Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls (TV series)

Lorelai’s motherly advice: “If you’re going to throw your life away, he’d better have a motorcycle!”

Finally—a sweet, huggable mom! Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) is easily one of the most-watched TV moms of all time. She has fierce love for her only daughter, Rory, she’s a self-made business-woman, and she knows to value of friendship.

Cersei Lannister, Game of Thrones (TV series)

Cersei’s motherly advice: “Everyone who isn’t us, is an enemy.”

A rogue addition to the list is Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). Without a doubt, she’s one of the most divisive on-screen moms, yet despite her villainy, she was definitely dedicated to her children—not that it helped any of them much!

Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins (feature film)

Mary’s motherly advice: “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.”

The practically perfect Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) magically turns every chore into a game and every day into a whimsical adventure. What’s not to love? Oh, and she can fly, too! Bet your mom can’t do that.
