Many people will be celebrating Halloween indoors this year, cuddling up in front of the television to watch their favorite scary movies with a bowl full of their favorite treats. We think it’s fair to indulge in as many mini candy bars as you want in these exceptional times.
Whatever treats you choose to munch, did you know the horror movie you choose to view may depend on which state you live in? Our friends at hotdog.com wondered how the popularity of horror movies varied across the US, so they put together a report to show each states’ favorite horror movie, as gleaned from analyses of data from Rotten Tomatoes and Google Trends.
Whether or not you agree with them (and we’re betting most of you will not), here are some of their fascinating findings on:
The Most Popular Horror Movies in Every State
- The Devil’s Backbone is the horror movie most states are obsessed with, appearing as the most loved in D.C., Michigan, New Jersey, and Texas.
- Bakjwi appears twice on our list, along with Freaks. “What’s a Bakjw?” many of you will ask. Maybe you should find out on Halloween.
- Some horror movie interests lie in the location where they were shot or se. For example, The Shining is the most popular in Colorado.
- Oregon is the most interested in horror movies, followed by Alaska, Washington D.C., Utah and Wyoming.
- Southeastern states seem to have the least interest in scary movies. Florida is the least interested, followed by Georgia, the Carolinas, and Mississippi.
Now, just in case you can’t read the movie titles on the map, here’s a printed list of:
